Yahoo! Invites developers to access tools and data

Yahoo!Recently, the developers were invited by Web portal major Yahoo Inc. to access in their tools and data and thus construct social network applications.

During the month of April, the Sunnyvale Company had committed to open some parts of its code for developers to contribute applications for their platform.

Jay Rossiter, Senior Vice President at Yahoo, wrote in a company blog entry, "The business hopes you'll enjoy some incredibly unique and creative new experiences that we would never have thought of."

This step is being termed as "open strategy" by the company. The changes that would come down are as follows:

1. Creation of a single,"universal profile" for Yahoo users.

2. An address book, that is portable, which means, it can be carried over to other applications.

3. Enhanced controls for adding content from other sites to Yahoo pages.

4. Social networking features, including the capability to see what others are doing, what movies they're renting, what photos they've uploaded, or what comments they've made on what blogs.

For a limited period, these new applications developed by the developers could only be used in a controlled space, or "sandbox." The company plans to open up the way the new applications are integrated through its various pages and sites, once the system evolves.
