Tokyo stocks close higher on stable Wall Street
Tokyo - Tokyo stocks closed higher Monday, sending the key Nikkei index to a five-week high, thanks to stability in the US market.
The Nikkei 225 Stock Average gained 157.01 points, or 1.18 per cent, to 13,450.23.
The broader Topix index of all first-section issues was also up 16.69 points, or 1.29 per cent, at 1,305.63.
On currency markets at midday (0300 GMT), the dollar was quoted at 102.38-43 yen, up from Friday's 5 pm quote of 102.30-33 yen.
The euro was quoted at 1.5670-73 dollars, down from Friday's 5 pm quote of 1.5719-22 dollars, and at 160.45-50 yen, down from 160.84-88 yen.
