Ankara - A 15-year-old boy was sentenced on Wednesday to three years behind bars for throwing rocks at police during a November protest in support of imprisoned Kurdish separatist leader Abdullah Ocalan, the Anadolu news agency reported.

Prosecutors alleged that the child, identified only as Y G, had taken part in a pro-Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) demonstration in the southern Turkey city of Adana and that police cameras had filmed the boy throwing rocks.

Kabul  - A suicide bomber detonated his vehicle near a NATO-led Turkish military convoy in Kabul city Sunday, killing himself and wounding two civilians, but causing no troop casualties, police said.

The attack took place in Company, an area on the western outskirts of Kabul, Sunday morning as the Turkish convoy was coming from the neighbouring province of Wardak, deputy provincial police chief Alishah Ahmadzai said.

"The bomber detonated his taxi car before reaching the convoy," Ahmadzai said. "The blast wounded two of our innocent people who were passing by the area at the time of the attack, but according to our information no one was hurt in the convoy."

Gelsenkirchen, Germany, Istanbul - Besiktas Istanbul are looking to sign former German international Fabian Ernst from Schalke 04, the German television station NTV reported Saturday, citing Turkish media sources.

According to the report, a deal is expected to be signed in the coming days for the defensive midfielder although Schalke have denied Ernst is going anywhere.

"So far there have been no enquiries from clubs about signing Fabian Ernst," a Schalke spokesman told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.

Washington - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in an exclusive interview Saturday in the Washington Post, blamed the policy of isolating the radical Islamst movement Hamas as a reason for the ongoing tensions in the Gaza Strip.

Erdogan, who was Thursday the centre of controversy at the World Economic Forum in Davos after an angry exchange with Israeli President Shimon Peres, argued for engaging Hamas in the Mideast process.
