Mumbai, April 1 : A day after stating that she was not in a position to defend Amir Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist in the November 26 terror strikes, Anjali Waghmare on Wednesday agreed to fight the case.

Confirming her decision to Justice Tahiliani, who will preside over Kasab''s trial, Waghmare said, "I will continue as Kasab''s lawyer and will represent him in trial."

Justifying her decision to defend Kasab, Waghmare said, "I am an Indian citizen and I have taken Kasab''s case in the country''s interest."

Mumbai, Apr 1 : Continuing to criticise the authorities for taking stringent action against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi, who has been accused of making communal remarks, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Wednesday said that that the imprisonment of Gandhi was a warning to Hindus and an attempt to gather Muslim vote bank.

Ganoeri (Maharashtra), Mar 31 : Farmers in Ganoeri village of Aurangabad district of Maharashtra have expressed happiness after their farm loans were waived off recently.

Congress-led Government had on May 23, 2008 raised the total farm loan waiver limit to Rs. 716.8 billion from the Rs. 600 billion.

"The government has given a lot to us. They have made us loan free. Earlier, we were in shackles but now we are in less shackles. The government has done a lot of favor to us," said GorakhBeraker, a farmer.

Mumbai, Mar 31 : Anjali Waghmare, who is representing Amir Ajmal Kasab, the lone arrested terrorist in the November 26 terror strikes, on Tuesday told the special court that she needs another day to reconsider her decision on appearing in the case.

Waghmare, who faced violent protests outside her home on Monday said, "I am under a lot of pressure. Give me one day to decide and think over it."

Mumbai, March 30 : A special court here today appointed Anjali Waghmare as the new lawyer for Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone terrorist captured alive in the Mumbai terror attacks last year.

Waghmare, who is a lawyer from the state legal aid cell, will now represent Kasab.

Kasab, during an earlier court hearing on March 23, had said he wanted a lawyer to represent him during the trial and was ready to accept a government-appointed lawyer.

During the hearing, Kasab had also accepted the fact that he hailed from Faridkot in Pakistan.
