Traffic queues ease as Greek customs workers end strike

Athens - Border traffic tailbacks began easing Friday after Greek customs officials ended a strike begun on Monday in protest at planned salary cutbacks.

Hundreds of trucks had remained stuck in long queues at customs stations across the country as the strike forced near-closure of all border stations, ports and airports.

The strike, in protest at the government's plans for severe salary cutbacks for civil servants, caused serious disruptions in food and fuel supplies along the border with Albania, Romania and Bulgaria.

State television said police reckoned on a full return to normal traffic flow by Sunday. (dpa)
