Paris airport terminal reopened after fatal 2004 roof collapse
Paris - Terminal 2E at Charles de Gaulle international airport reopened on Sunday, nearly four years after part of its roof collapsed, killing four persons.
French radio said the first passengers arriving at the reopened terminal building had on a flight from New Delhi.
On May 23, 2004, only a few weeks after the 660-metre-long glas and steel terminal was opened, the central section of the roof caved in, killing four passengers and injuring another six.
Technical investigations later determined a number of structural errors in the design and building of the steel and concrete components. Afterwards, the concrete structure was completely torn down and replaced, at a cost of 130 million euros (200 million dollars) by one made of lighter materials. (dpa)
