US promises $50 million reward to capture drug kingpins
In an effort to diffuse a notorious drug trafficking organization named "The Company", the Department of State has announced a reward up to $50 million for the one whose information would help in arresting the top 10 Mexican drug dealers.
As per estimates, key suspects, who belonged to elite security force known as Los Zetas, have sold drugs worth $1 billion in the US.
Out of the 10 suspects, Miguel Trevino-Morales has been arrested. He is accused of distributing cocaine and violating firearms Act and could face life-imprisonment for the same.
The Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act rules out any kind of transaction amid U. S. companies or persons and foreign narcotics traffickers.
Case is already running against 19 persons who have been accused of drug-trafficking in federal court in Washington.
Lanny A. Breuer, Assistant Attorney General, said, "We have learned that the most effective way to disrupt and dismantle criminal organizations is to prosecute their leaders and seize their funding."
