Sudanese lunch alternative finds foothold in Berlin
Berlin - Berlin's food stand scene, dominated by doner kebabs, falafel and sausages covered in curry sauce, has been enhanced by an exotic food called the tamiya.
The tamiya is a type of sandwich originating in Sudan and is a newcomer to the neighbourhoods of Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg. Pedestrians are flocking to food stalls where this new, light meal is gaining popularity.
Tamiyas are made of mashed chickpeas, eggplant, smoked Sudanese meat and even filet of crocodile. They come with sauce and are served in bread. (dpa)
